England give injury update on Manchester United defender Luke Shaw

Man Utd full-back Luke Shaw is yet to join up with the England squad after he suffered concussion in the Manchester derby on Saturday.

Luke Shaw is still following concussion protocols after the head injury he sustained in the Manchester derby at the weekend.

The left-back suffered a blow to the head in the second half of United’s 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford and was replaced by Alex Telles later on in the half.

Shaw was initially included in the England squad for World Cup qualifiers with Albania and San Marino during the international break, but he’s not yet been able to link up with Gareth Southgate’s group.

The 26-year-old remained at home as he followed concussion protocols and he will miss the first of England’s games, against Albania at Wembley on Friday night.

And Southgate has revealed that time is also running out for Shaw to play against San Marino, with the United defender failing the markers on the first day of his concussion absence, which has delayed his potential return.

“I’ve got to check in with our medical staff for today’s updates, the longer it goes the less likely that is [that he’ll be involved],” said Southgate.

“Luke has got very strict guidelines on concussion markers, the first day he didn’t pass the markers so that gets shifted back.

“We’ve got to follow the guidelines on that, we might run out of time, we’ll just see.”

Harry Maguire is the only United player in the England squad at the moment, with Marcus Rashford withdrawing earlier this week, while Mason Greenwood, Jesse Lingard and Jadon Sancho all missed out on selection.
