Player Ratings : West Ham United vs Manchester United

12

Manchester United clinched a narrow 2-1 victory over the Hammers here at the London Stadium. United now remain joint top of the Premier League table.

West Ham scored at the half hour mark when a deflected Benrahma shot found its way past De Gea. Soon Ronaldo equalised followed by a late wonder strike by Lingard.

Now, let us look at the Player Ratings :

Starting XI

David de Gea 8/10

United’s matchwinner of the day. Saved Noble’s late penalty to secure all the three points for the Devils. Looked solid throughout the game and was unlucky to concede through a deflection.

Aaron Wan Bissaka 6/10

Good work defensively and offensively. Overall an average performance from Wan Bissaka. Lost possession casually at certain instances.

Harry Maguire 6/10

Surely not his best performance for the club. Lost possession several times and didn’t look comfortable going forward.

Raphael Varane 7/10

Unfortunate on the deflection otherwise he put in another solid performance. Covered for Maguire on quite some occasions. Looks perfectly set at United.

Luke Shaw 6/10

An ever present threat down the left hand side. Solid defensively as well however a careless penalty conceded by the English international. Saved by de Gea fortunately.

Fred 5/10

Careless on the ball yet again. Lost possession in crucial areas of the pitch. However it was his better performances as compared to recent fixtures. Good at retrieving the ball alongside the physical McTominay.

Scott Mctominay 6/10

Straight back into the squad after a minor injury. A constant physical presence at the heart of United’s midfield. Picked out one or two good passes as well.

Bruno Fernandes 7/10

Not his best day however hit the post and found a great ball to Ronaldo who equalised the score for United. Found his rhythm as the game went on.

Mason Greenwood 6/10

Looked good on the ball and took some good positions in the attacking third. Helped out defensively as well.

Cristiano Ronaldo 7/10

United’s main focal point of attack. Scored yet again off Bruno’s cross. Should’ve handed a penalty as pundits argued. Fans argue he should’ve had more opportunities to test the goalkeeper. Already 3 goals in the PL.

Paul Pogba 6/10

Started from the left but shifted inside and switched positions with Bruno occasionally. Good movement on the ball but on the contrary lost possession a couple of times as well. An average 6 for the Frenchman.

Substitutes

Jadon Sancho 6/10

An average performance from the new boy. Looked good on the ball and although tried his best to help the team, wasn’t quite effective.

Jesse Lingard 7/10

Pretty average until the banger he scored against his former team. A good strike to seal the 3 points for the team.

Nemanja Matic 6/10

Brought on for Fred late into the game to see out the result. But ended up providing a brilliant match winning pass to Jesse for the late goal.

A not so dominant performance from the team but we move on. 3 points in the bag and now joint top of the table with 13 points. Needed the victory after a disappointing loss in the UCL against Young Boys.
